Saturn Gateway - A Multichain Multisig Application for the Polkadot Ecosystem
Hello to all!
My name is Dakota Barnett & I am one of the founders of the InvArch Network, along with Gabriel Facco de Arruda. We're known across Twitter as XCAstronaut & TinkerGabe. Today, we are opening a public discussion around our intended & upcoming proposal to the Polkadot treasury which is centered around the creation of a web application (named: Saturn Gateway) for managing multichain multisigs throughout the Polkadot ecosystem.
Saturn Gateway will realize an intuitive interface specifically designed for multichain multisig management & activities within the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystem. While there are a growing number of multisig applications & interfaces being developed in the Polkadot ecosystem, this is much different from anything previously funded by the Polkadot treasury. Past & present solutions service the Polkadot parachain, with the ability to add support for other parachains, so long as they include the proper pallets in their runtime, and require users to manage those multisigs separately to each network. Saturn Gateway will instead be able to service any chain, regardless of the pallets in their runtime, and will allow users to manage their assets across multiple networks using a single multisig.
Rather than a proposal centered around bringing much-needed interfaces to the surface for the sake of catching up to other ecosystems, Saturn Gateway builds on the Saturn Multichain Multisig protocol & SDK in order to realize a multichain asset custody solution that is beyond what other ecosystems have achieved & providing the Polkadot ecosystem with a narrative for housing leading-edge solutions.
The proposal details can be found here.
Additionally, a breakdown of the budget & work performed can be found here.
We have been working away at a prototype UI and have been proactively working towards the creation of this application for the Polkadot ecosystem. We are seeking $350,400 equivalent in DOT so that we may have the needed funding in order to continue our development. We would like to note that the development of Saturn was first started after receiving funding from the Kusama treasury, where we delivered on our promise to build out a multichain multisig SDK for the ecosystem. Additionally, any and all fees needed to use Saturn Gateway will be able to be paid for using the DOT token, adding utility to the token itself & realizing a smoother experience for users. We look forward to hearing the thoughts & feedback of the community.
Thank you for your time & those who have read our proposal. We're excited to elevate the multisig ownership & asset custody experience of Polkadot and hope that our proposal will be received favorably by the community!
UPDATE:
We would also like to share that we have submitted this proposal to the treasury through OpenGov following over a week of public discussion, a public announcement of the proposal on the June Polkadot Community Call, and discussing the proposal earlier today on the very first Polkadot specific AAG call(skip to 1:17:00).
Also, we would like to outline that all of our code is open-source & that the repository for Saturn Gateway can be found here.

Absolutely against. Just use the treasury to pay programmers ridiculous amounts. A react programmer to do the exact same things can also be found at 30$ / h. If you need money I suggest you spend less on travel and think about programming
I am sorry to hear that this is how you feel about our proposal, @11c6232480874d5683324446f. To be honest, we've been told that considering the scope of what we're building, the overall costs are actually notably inexpensive & low.
Regarding specific roles, all I can really add is that our team works very hard & many long hours to produce working solutions in quick timeframes. We often work with a great sense of urgency on our shoulders. As a result, we are often able to build things rather fast, which means less time overall between start to finish; however, this equates to more working hours & longer hours of work. It is a tradeoff, rather than a lower rate & work taking many more hours to complete, we ask for a higher rate, and in return, we provide a powerful solution in a quicker time.
I also want to stress that this is much more than front-end development as well. We will be providing an XCM transaction builder & bundler, and the highly specialized part of this work is not the raw react but the blockchain client logic.
I hope we can change your mind, but I understand if you are not moved by what I've said above. I would like to note that our team hardly travels, especially compared to most other teams, with us often missing events, and such events are almost entirely events where there is a desire for the Polkadot ecosystem to show up in force, such as Consensus where Parity provided us a free booth, Polkadot Decoded where I am speaking & we will be showing off demos of Saturn Gateway, and the Polkadot Blockchain Academy where Gabe will be a teaching assistant focusing on XCM.
Our team has a reputation for delivering great products, for our programming, especially Gabe who has done almost nothing besides code & develop Saturn Gateway over the past 5 or 6 weeks. It is upsetting to hear those thoughts, but I hope that my explanation can help in some way.
Saturn Gateway has the potential to provide so much good to the ecosystem, and to return so much more value than what it takes to develop; it means the world to us to see this pass.
Hello team,
Please remember to formally announce your OpenGov referendum in the Polkadot Direction channel, so that Community members are aware, can review, and cast their votes.
Thank you.
Thank you, @6edddd7103c94980a91362105!
I've just posted there to help spread awareness!
