Our goal for Nova Wallet is to build and maintain a high-quality, open-source, community-focused, and feature-rich mobile application, which has no network biases and can function with no limitations/restrictions. Nova Wallet is the leading app in the ecosystem by the following criteria:
- Feature set & high quality (reliability, security, performance, usability)
- Total amount of active users
- Amount of Staked tokens to Nomination pools and Validators
Apart from developing the open-source Nova Wallet iOS & Android mobile applications, our team is consistently contributing to the Polkadot ecosystem by providing open-source SDKs, design assets, knowledge-sharing sessions, and infrastructure. Examples include:
- Substrate SDKs for iOS and Android development
- Nova Utils GitHub β metadata & configs for networks, crowdloans, DApps, cross-chain transfers
- SubQuery API projects developed and hosted by Nova Wallet team, including a new Governance-focused project
- Nova Assets Figma β design assets: Polkadot eco tokens, networks, DApps, etc.
- Hosted metadata portal for Polkadot & Kusama ecosystem networks β metadata portal for Parity Signer, ecosystem hardware wallet
- Polkadot in Action β series of videos & articles focused on onboarding people to help utilize the power of Polkadot & Kusama ecosystem through the Nova Wallet
- Delegate Registry β an open-source repository for Delegates to fill out their information to attract more delegations through the Agile Delegation feature
- Other apps are using it (besides Nova Wallet): OpenGov Insights
- Designing and Developing Nova Spektr β all-in-one desktop app for Polkadot ecosystem
This proposal covers the further development of Nova Wallet as a mobile application for the Polkadot ecosystem, allowing us to expand upon the already large set of features contained within Nova Wallet by adding Cloud backups, Push-notifications, Proxy wallets, improvements to OpenGov, new Hardware Wallets, Network management, and Deeplinks & Applinks.
The intended outcomes from this proposal:
- Implementation of this proposal's feature set for the Nova Wallet iOS and Android apps (as described in the feature set of the proposal section)
- Reimbursement for delivered features
- Public demos: every 2-4 weeks (see YouTube)
- Updates to AppStore / Google Play: every 1-4 weeks
- Open-source iOS and Android mobile apps under Apache 2.0 license
- Open-source iOS and Android Substrate SDKs under Apache 2.0 license
- Updates to Nova Wallet wiki knowledge base & guides (see Wiki)

Hey, Nova Wallet Team π Greetings from Polkadot Philosophy!
We're excited about the Nova Wallet 5th Proposal. The push notifications feature has long been overdue in the crypto wallet space. Quick updates on balance changes and governance events are essential for active community members. It's a practical addition that enhances user engagement. Strengthening the governance process aligns perfectly with the ethos of Polkadot. Itβs great to see Nova Wallet enhancing user participation in this crucial aspect.
This proposal represents a significant step forward in making the Polkadot ecosystem more accessible, secure, and user-friendly. Itβs impressive to see Nova Wallet not just keeping up but actively pushing the envelope in wallet technology.
π Kudos to the Nova Wallet team for this comprehensive proposal. We fully support this initiative and look forward to seeing these features come to life.
Best,
Polkadot Philosophy Team
P.S.: In crypto, it's not just about the technology; it's about making it work for the community. This proposal hits right at home. Keep up the great work!
@Polkadot Philosophy Hey hey Polkadot Philosophy!

Anton K.
Hey Nova Team,
first, thanks for the great app, I use it every day and like many others I want it to continue and stand out in the whole ecosystem. The reason I am writing however is that I find your calculations very high, I didn't look at all features you propose, as I do not have the expertise to estimate hours in every field, but noticed the numbers were large in one area I have some experience in: "OpenGov improvements".
You are listing 4 features
And you calculate 720h => 93.600$ for implementing that features. Can you share more details how those hours are distributed among the 4 proposed features? I have implemented "abstain vote", "prediction time" myself and think that I can imagine the hours need for the other two (assuming the indexer for historical votes already exist https://api.novasama.io/ -> was only looking into Kusama).
Please help me understand the assumed time so I can vote Aye with conviction.
@1soE...oRvP Hey hey!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
The majority of the work for development will be allocated to "Referendum card & details visual improvements" from both design & development side of things β we want to give a major refresh in UX based on the feedback we have received. The rest of the features indeed quite minor from the development perspective β there are some corner cases with Abstain voting tho (e.g. how to display/explain to a user that conviction is not affecting Abstain vote, etc)
The "Referendum card & details visual improvements" is going to have almost ~70% of allocated efforts (124 hours for iOS development, 124 hours for Android, 72 hours for QA testing, 104 hours of Design, 72 hours of Team lead). The resulted amount of hours can be seen high due to the fact that Nova Wallet consists of 2 separate apps β iOS implemented with Swift, and Android implemented with Kotlin β which allow us to maximize performance & development capabilities on each platform. The QA testing is essential to validate implementation on both platforms as well as perform BVA (boundary value analysis) testing β in case of Governance features that includes deploying a whole testnet to verify implementation of aforementioned features like Prediction calculations and how cards are transitioned from one state to another, among other things. Team lead hours allocated to manage team development as well as contribute to other product activities β release management, social media coverage, users coms. So the total sum of hours results in that amount.
Here is decomposed estimates for now, and I believe we can decompose the Visual improvements further to make it more clear what would that include. The thing is that we are still selecting between couple of options which affect the subtasks in that regard, and listing only one & then implementing completely different would affect community expectations, so that's why we left it as is right now.

For the total amount in fiat its important to understand that Novasama Technologies GmbH is a legal entity which is required to pay 30% corporate taxes that are included to hourly rate that we are using for estimating the proposal amount. Waiving this would reduce the amount significantly however its not possible due to the legal concerns.
